Beau Beausoleil and Deema K. Shehabi, reading and in conversation
Join us for a reading, with conversation to follow, by two Bay Area poet friends, Beau Beausoleil and Deema Shehabi.

Deema K. Shehabi is the author of Thirteen Departures From the Moon and co-editor with Beau Beausoleil of Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here, for which she received the Northern California Book Award's NCBR Recognition Award. She is also co-author of Diaspo/Renga, with Marilyn Hacker, and the winner of the Nazim Hikmet poetry competition in 2018.
Beau Beausoleil has lived in San Francisco since 1969. His first book of poetry, Witness, was published in San Francisco in 1976 by Panjandrum Press. In all, he has had 15 chapbooks of poetry published including 4 published by Barley Books in the U.K. His most recent volume of poetry is Another Way Home (Blue Light Press, 2022). Forthcoming is a chapbook of poems, The Killing of George Floyd (Intermittent Press, 2023). He is the founder and director of a global book arts project, Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here, which was formed in 2007 in response to the car-bombing of al-Mutanabbi Street (the street of the booksellers) in Baghdad, Iraq. He is the co-editor, with Deema Shehabi, of the anthology, Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here (P.M. Press, 2012).
