¡INTER-RANCHO-NAL! Flor y Canto reading with three Mexican poets: Minerva Reynosa, Indira Isel Torres Crux, Aziz Córdova

A rare midsummer event for The Poetry Center, joining forces with San Francisco International Flor y Canto Literary Festival and our friends at Medicine for Nightmares, to co-present three poets flying in from Mexico to take part in the annual festival. Minerva Reynosa (Monterrey), Indira Isel Torres Crux (Colima), and Aziz Córdova (Agua Prieta) will be featured guests on Saturday evening, with hosts Josiah Luis Alderete and Lourdes Figueroa.

Also, earlier on Saturday afternoon, Minerva Reynosa will present a free Workshop (en español); and on Sunday afternoon, she and  Aziz Córdova join Bay Area poets Lourdes Figueroa, Aideed Medina, and Hector Son of Hector for Poets On La Esquina, reading their poems on the corner of 24th and Harrison Streets. 

Presented in collaboration with San Francisco International Flor y Canto Literary Festival, in conjunction with the San Francisco Public Library.

Aziz Córdova (Agua Prieta, Sonora. 1995): Ex lavaplatos, actualmente imparte talleres de escritura creativa en Agua Prieta, por su lado escribe y publica poesía donde caiga, también es editor en Retina de Gallo, una editorial independiente de poesía sonorense; las tres cosas las hace con más amor que oficio. Publicó su primer poemario Como siempre, llego tarde (o me vengo muy pronto) en la misma Retina de Gallo allá por los lejanos tiempos del 2018. Ha publicado en distintos medios físicos y digitales como Pez Banana, Timonel, Enchiridion, Katabasis entre otros. Ha participado en recitales, congresos y festivales como el Congreso Nacional de Creadores Literarios en 2021, el Festival Internacional de Poesía Caracol en 2022, CRONOCRATORES lectura poética entre Perú, México y Argentina en 2023 , así como en el encuentro de Poetas y Arte Contemporáneo en MARCO y la mesa de Fronteras Dispersas en la FILMTY 2023.

• Aziz Córdova (b. Agua Prieta, Sonora. 1995). Ex-dishwasher, nowadays he teaches creative writing classes in Agua Prieta, alongside writing and publishing poetry anywhere he can, and being an editor with Retina de Gallo, an independent Sonoran poetry press. These three things he does with more love than mastery. He published his first book Como siempre llego tarde (o me vengo muy pronto) on Retina de Gallo in the far away times of 2018. He has published on distinct mexican media, physical and digital (Pez Banana, Timonel, Enchiridion, Katabasis, among others). He has taken part in recitals, congresses, and festivals, such as Congreso Nacional de Creadores Literarios en 2021, Festival Internacional de Poesía Caracol en 2022, CRONOCRATORES lectura poética entre Perú, México y Argentina en 2023, and Encuentro de Poetas y Arte Contemporáneo en MARCO y la mesa de Fronteras Dispersas in FILMTY 2023.

Minerva Reynosa (Monterrey, México. 1979). Poeta, gestora cultural y Doctora en Ciencias Sociales por El Colegio de Michoacán. Ha publicado los libros de poesía: Una infanta necia (2003), Emötoma (2007, Premio Carmen Alardín 2006), La íntima de las cosas (2007), Atardecer en los suburbios (2011), Fotogramas de mi corazón conceptual absolutamente ciego (2012), Mammut (app de videojuego, 2015), la traducción de Photograms of my conceptual heart absolutely blind, realizada por Stalina Villarreal (2016), Mammut & Jinba-Ittai (2019), Larga oda a la salvación de Osvaldo en co-autoría con Sergio Ernesto Ríos (2019) e iremos que te pienso entre las filas y el olfato pobre de un paisaje con borrachos o ahorcados (2020) y Lo mejor que damos. Antología personal (2022). Su obra ha sido traducida al alemán, inglés, sueco, ruso y francés. Se ha presentado en congresos académicos y festivales de literatura en México, Cuba, Colombia, EUA, España, Francia, Alemania, Marruecos, Suecia, Rusia y Finlandia. Premio Regional Carmen Alardín 2006 y Premio Nacional de Poesía Clemencia Isaura 2020. Actualmente colabora con Benjamín Moreno en el proyecto de experimentación textual, visual y tecnológico Benerva! Es docente online, consultora de literatura, gestora de distintos proyectos de sensibilización de la poesía y pertenece al Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte.

• Minerva Reynosa (b. Monterrey, Mexico. 1979). Poet, cultural manager and PhD in Social Sciences from El Colegio de Michoacán. She received the 2006 Regional Carmen Alardín Award and 2020 Clemencia Isaura National Poetry Award. She is currently collaborating with Benjamín Moreno on the textual, visual and technological experimental project Benerva! She works as an online teacher, literature consultant, and manager of different projects to raise awareness of poetry, and belongs to the National System of Art Creators in Mexico.

Indira Isel Torres Crux (Colima, México) poeta y activista cultural. Ha publicado De la fractura al festín y Bang Bang. Participó en el Festival Primavera de los poetas en Sollies Pont, París, Francia. Lleva adelante el proyecto de musicalización de textos poéticos y narrativos: Shows Bravos. Ganó el premio de poesía, Colima, México, 2015 por el poemario La Furia de la Casa. Presea, Griselda Álvarez, 2016, por distinción en Letras. Dirige el Festival Internacional de Poesía Comala y organiza el espacio de lectura: “No queremos beber ajenjo”: poesía de mujeres y Coorganizadora de Lengua Suelta: poesía mexa, latina y chicana, 2020.  Forma parte del equipo de organización del Festival Continental de pueblos Originarios, Ecos del Tzabek, 2020. Coorganizadora del 1er Encuentro de Mujeres Originarias, 2021. Lectura, Nos Leemos, Las leemos, poesía latinoamericana y transfronteriza, 2021.

• Indira Isel Torres Crux (Colima, México), poet and cultural activist, has published De la fractura al festín (From Fracture to Feast) and Bang Bang. She participated in the Spring Festival of Poets in Sollies Pont, Paris, France, and is carrying out the project of musicalization of poetic and narrative texts, with Shows Bravos. She won the 2015 Colima Poetry Prize, for her book of poems La Furia de la Casa, and the Griselda Álvarez Award, 2016, for distinction in literature. She directs the Comala International Poetry Festival and organizes the reading space “No queremos beber ajenjo” (“We don't want to drink wormwood”): poetry by women, and co-organized Lengua Suelta: Mexa, Latina and Chicano poetry, in 2020. She was part of the organization team of the Continental Festival of Indigenous Peoples, Ecos del Tzabek, also in 2020, and co-organizer of the 1st Meeting of Indigenous Women, and of Reading, We Read Ourselves, We Read Them, Latin American and Cross-Border Poetry, both in 2021.
