Overview

The Poetry Center welcomes Kim Shuck, Poet Laureate Emerita of San Francisco, who'll be reading from her recent work, together with young Diné poet Hataałiinez Wheeler, visiting from Window Rock, Arizona. This is the first of two paired events, with Hataałii in his role as singer-songwriter performing this same evening, with local Colectivo CalleSon opening. For this early afternoon set of readings and conversation we're at The Poetry Center at San Francisco State. Please join us.

Supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Poetry Center reading room is located on the fifth floor of the Humanities Building, and is wheelchair accessible.

VIDEO for this program will be posted after editing at Poetry Center Digital Archive.

Kim Shuck is the 7th Poet Laureate of San Francisco Emerita. Shuck is a crow, a bubble blower, and a cloud gazer. Kim is solo author of eleven books, had a hand in editing another eleven. The book fort proceeds apace. The most recent of her solo books is Pick a Garnet to Sleep In from Scapegoat Press. More at kimshuck.com

Hataałiinez Wheeler is a singer/writer/artist/student, hailing from the capital of the Navajo nation, Window Rock, Arizona. Natives Don't Get Haircuts (Wry Press, 2023) is a debut chapbook of compelling poems and a short story, "The University Powwow." Hataałii’s (pronounced: Hah-toth-lee) music has been praised, by Michael Klausman at Aquarium Drunkard, as “weirdly genreless and out-of-time, yet constantly reach[ing] for some sort of cosmic agency.” His newest album is Singing Into Darkness (Dangerbird Records).
