The Poetry Center is happy to announce that, thanks once again to a generous grant from the Walter & Elise Haas Fund, our In Common Writers Series continues for Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. We'll present six new double-programs throughout the year, which follow on six double-programs presented during 2018–19. The series features a range of remarkable guest artists from across the US, paired in performance and conversation with local Bay Area—for the most part—artists with whom they share strong affinities.
We're doing focused outreach to students and faculty in SF State's College of Ethnic Studies, as well as other areas of study across the university, to bring in new audiences. Each featured artist appears at The Poetry Center, presenting new work alongside their paired guest artist, and engaging in a public conversation. Then, moving off-campus, both writers present new work at one of the Bay Area's local bookstores or arts spaces. We want to recognize in particular Bay Area bookstores as crucial cultural centers and among the most long-lived and durable cultural sites in this aggresively gentrified region. For the In Common Writers Series we'll also be collaborating with equally vital local arts spaces.
