Thanks to a generous grant from the Sam Mazza Foundation, The Poetry Center is delighted to invite Tatiana Luboviski-Acosta to be our Mazza Writer in Residence for Fall 2018. Throughout their week-long residency, Luboviski-Acosta meets with several classes of students pursuing multiple studies at SF State, presents a reading, along with renowned Nicaraguan poet Daisy Zamora, Thursday October 4 at The Poetry Center, plus a performance, in collaboration with Kyle Parker, Saturday October 6 at The Green Arcade. October 1–6: Mazza Writer in Residence Fall 2018, Tatiana Luboviski-Acosta, author of
The Easy Body (Timeless, Infinite Light, 2017).
A Nicaraguan Californian via Mexico raised both in Huntington Park and Highland Park neighborhoods of Los Angeles, Tatiana Luboviski-Acosta lives in a rent controlled apartment in the Mission District of San Francisco. An artist, writer, reproductive justice activist, patient advocate, and lapsed full spectrum doula who supports themself through working at a neighborhood cafe and cleaning houses, Tatiana Luboviski-Acosta’s work attempts, as fellow poet Lauren Levin writes, to “include direct revolutionary action, up to and including revolutionary violence, as part of a continuum of care, and their use of this redefinition of care-work to rethink gendered paradigms.” Their first book, The Easy Body, was published by Oakland queer art & publishing collective Timeless, Infinite Light in 2017. • For the first of two public events, Thursday October 4 at The Poetry Center, Luboviski-Acosta is joined by renowned Nicaraguan poet (and SF State faculty member in Latina/Latino Studies) Daisy Zamora. Each of the poets will read from their work, followed by a conversation between them and with their audience. Then, on Saturday October 6, Luboviski-Acosta stages an original performance, in collaboration with Kyle Parker, at The Green Arcade, near San Francisco's Civic Center.
