Oakland poet-performer duo creates an original multi-media site-specific work to be performed in The Poetry Center Reading Room, followed by a conversation with the audience.
alex cruse is an Oakland-based interdisciplinary artist, writer, and educator. She is half of the audio-visual-textual-performance project DROUGHT SPA with her husband, Kevin CK Lo. Her first book of poetry, CONTRAVERSE, was published this year by Timeless, Infinite Light. cruse has exhibited and performed nationally and abroad.
Kevin CK Lo is the other half of DROUGHT SPA: a composer, choreographer, artist and writer based in Oakland (previously Melbourne, Australia; orig. New Zealand) also working with iterative visuals, machinic text and spatialized media. In his compositions for live performance and installation, he utilizes instruments, digital sound processing and generative programming environments to examine spatial and auditory sensitivities, topological structure and audience kinesthetic response while seeking to corrupt conventional compositional/performative/installative rationale.
