A commemoration of the 50th anniversary of our sister institution The Poetry Project, located since 1966 at St. Marks Church in New York City, featuring readings by Poetry Project stalwarts—and outstanding poets and writers—Ariel Goldberg and Simone White. The Poetry Project has been hosting a platform of 50th anniversary events called Giant Night, "encouraging us all to future-think our way into new lineages, pedagogies, and ways of seeing."
Ariel Goldberg is a writer, artist and curator interested in intimate modes of observation. Their publications include The Estrangement Principle (Nightboat Books, 2016) and The Photographer (Roof Books, 2015). Goldberg is the Friday Night Coordinator at The Poetry Project, championing interdisciplinary artists, activists, scholars, archivists, and of course, poets. Their research and performance based work has been supported by the New York Public Library, Franklin Furnace Fund, Headlands Center for the Arts, The Invisible Dog, Residencias Artísticas Intercambios and SOMA in Mexico City. They teach at Parsons, The New School, Pratt Institute, and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Photography & Imaging. Photo by Sean D. Henry-Smith.
Simone White is a poet and critic. She is the author of Of Being Dispersed (Futurepoem), Unrest (Ugly Duckling Presse/Dossier Series) and House Envy of All the World (Factory School). A new book of poems and a big essay, Dear Angel of Death, is forthcoming from Ugly Duckling in late 2017. She is Program Director of The Poetry Project and Visiting Assistant Professor of Literary Studies at The New School, Eugene Lang College.
