Poetry and The Body — Poetry Coalition featured programs for March 2018

The Poetry Center, as part of The Poetry Coalition, an alliance of more than 20 poetry organizations across the United States, will devote a portion of its March 2018 events to the theme Poetry and The Body. These programs are supported by a grant from the Ford Foundation to the Academy of American Poets on behalf of the Poetry Coalition.

The Poetry Center organized two aligned events in San Francisco, March 1 and March 3, with guest writers Jackie Wang, poet and author of Carceral Capitalism, and Lily Hoang, author of five books of essays and fiction, most recently A Bestiary.

• Lily Hoang and Jackie Wang, reading and in conversation
Thursday March 1, 7pm @ The Poetry Center, HUM 512, SFSU

• Jackie Wang, Carceral Capitalism, with Lily Hoang, A Bestiary, a reading and book party
Saturday March 3, 7:00pm at The Green Arcade, 1680 Market Street, San Francisco

This will be the second year of joint programming by Poetry Coalition member organizations on a theme of social importance. In March 2017 the coalition addressed migration in a series of poetry readings, social media projects, panel discussions, writing workshops, and digital publications that reached 100,000 individuals in 11 cities.

Poetry Coalition programming in March 2018 will include a range of events and publications that address issues including mass incarceration, transphobia, violence against people of color, and health and self-care.
